San Francisco

Next Sunday (July 31st) I'll be heading to San Francisco for a week on a business trip. I'm heading out to meet the people I've been working with for the past year or so, and work in the office with everyone for the week. Working remotely is great, but at times I do wish I'd be in the office and could be a bit more involved that way.

I'll have Saturday, August 6th free, to do some sightseeing and shopping so if there is anything I need to see, be sure to let me know. It should be a good time - I've never yet visited the west coast. I'm looking forward to my time in San Francisco; I've heard it's a beautiful city.

Ryan, just one question: will you be in Wisconsin/Minnesota again between Sept. 14th and October 12th?

Cisco is fantastic, I really want to go back there ASAP!

Hey, I went to san fran when I was 7 and loved it, I highly suggest going on a tour of alcatraz(sounds kinda cliche) but its really fun to go to. Well my main advice to you is have lots of fun there because its a really nice city!

Patrick,

Funny, I went to Cisco when I was 10, and I did the Alcatraz tour as well. :-)

(also, I live in the Netherlands, so it wasn't like it was just a small trip for me either)

I hope you have fun, Ryan. Right now it's really warm here so hopefully you'll catch the weather when you arrive.

And the rumours you've heard about SF being a beautiful city are true.

Faruk,

Yep, I'll be in Wisconsin between Sept 14 and Oct 12.

Thanks for the advice about Alcatraz - I'll check into it.

Ryan,

Hmm, it seems a bit further away than I'd hoped, but care to meet up for some drinks and Web Standards chit-chat somewhere between the Twin Cities and where you'll be? :)

If you find it to be too far a drive and all, I'd say that's entirely sensible, so no worries if you'd rather pass.

Faruk,

I'll email you shortly about setting up a time to have a little chat. :) Wonder if anyone else would be interested in joining us, ala NEWD?

Excellent. I may be out to Chicago for the week after October 1st, but before then I have all the time in the world.

There is a Twin Cities Web Standards Meetup in Minneapolis or St. Paul (undecided yet) around September 20th. I'm not sure yet if there is a set date, but it'll be somewhere around that time. We could turn it into a NEWD/DEWD-like meetup, for sure, inviting everyone who's interested. :-)

That's how I got to know the people from the Twin Cities meetups, too: last year I was there, had agreed with one single blogger (Seth Thomas Rasmussen) to go for drinks and standards-chatting, we ended up going to the Web Standards meetup there and it was a big success. Lots of people came :-)

(PS. I edited the comment before to fix the URL, but for some reason it's not saving my edit, only showing the correct version in the preview. Reposted this so you can just delete the previous one :-))

Make sure you check out Lombardi Street, Coit Tower, and the Fisherman's Wharf. Especially the Wharf. Ghirardelli Square is also pretty neat.

If you have a chance, probably my best memory of SF is The Phantom of the Opera. Any (clean) Broadway show will do (the caliber of the performance is ridiculously good).

And if you stop by Idaho, we've got an extra room for you. =)

Enjoy your time.

Nathan - thanks for the suggestions and the offer! :) Not sure how much time I'll have to do stuff, right now I'm just looking for something to do on Saturday, but I have a feeling that will fill up once I'm actually there. ;)

David - What, not Wisconsin? C'mon... ;)
