A New Look for Autumn

Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 1:57 am | Comments off

Since the leaves are turning color and starting to fall, the temperature is dropping, and I find myself needing to wear a sweatshirt, I thought now would be a good time to whip up an autumn-inspired palette for this site. It's something to remind everyone that the seasons are changing.

I modified both the CSS and the images that provide the color for this site, so if things look funky, just reload your browser. For the most part the file names changed, but there are a few here and there that I left the same for simplicities sake.

Anyway, hopefully you all will enjoy the new colors, and will remember to get out and enjoy the nice weather.

Update: A style switcher is now available in the sidebar to swap between the two color pallates for this site.

I also love it,
It's nice to see a change once in a while, and no, I am not just saying that to get in the "in-crowd", I really like it :D.

Looks great Ryan, the colors definitely match the season. I've always been a fan of layouts that make use of "earthy tones".

Don't despair. If I get the time, I'll try to make the other version available as an alternate stylesheet. Probably would have to be PHP based rather than browser based, as some images are written directly to the page or use JavaScript to be written in. Overall, it'd be quite easy to add, so I'll see what I can do.

Also, nice to see you commenting. :)

There is only one header image? (T_T) More more!

Looks great. Way to step out of the gray and white paradigm (a travesty I have yet to overcome).

As always, keep up the good work!

Hey, I like it! It's nice to see a header new header image. The browns/tans are a nice change from the normal color.

I know that this is your site just by seeing the graphics, layout and so on, but for the person that has never seen your site before, how will they identify it as ryanbrill.com? The header has nothing in it so where do you identify who's or what site this is?

I know you said you'd make the normal color an alternate stylesheet, but have you considered (when you change the color again) keeping these colors as an alternate stylesheet? I'm sure that more than a few of us wouldn't mind seeing these colors permanently.

Yep, I know what you mean. The fact that this site isn't immediately identifiable as ryanbrill.com is probably currently it's largest weakness. I've actually been wanting to re-design the site, but just haven't had the time or the right inspiration, yet. The next design will hopefully fix some of these outstanding issues, though I may even work on some of them on this design.

As far as keeping these new colors as an alternate stylesheet, yes, I'll likely do that. As you can see in the sidebar, I've already implemented the style switcher for those who may prefer the old colors.

I like it Ryan, but I don't like the fact that on the masthead there is nothing about RyanBrill.com

Ryan,

Looks Great, just as the people above said, it definately needs more of a "personal identity" to it. I do like the new colors better :D. Great Work...

Also, What happened to your "post" and "preview" buttons?
